Currency & Metals FAQ
Answers to the questions we hear most.
How do I convert between currencies or into precious metals?
Enter an amount in either field, then pick the source and target from the dropdowns. The converter works both ways and supports any pairing — including currencies to Gold (XAU), Silver (XAG), Platinum (XPT) or Palladium (XPD). Conversion runs automatically as you type; you can also press the Convert button or the Enter key.
Where does the exchange rate data come from?
Every rate is real reference data aggregated from central-bank sources — ECB reference rates via Frankfurter and Exchangerate-API for currencies, plus live spot feeds for precious metals. If the live feeds are unreachable (e.g. offline), the page automatically falls back to built-in reference rates so the converter keeps working — the source label then shows "Built-in reference (offline fallback)".
How often are the rates updated?
Currency reference rates are published on each business day and refresh live here as soon as they are available. Precious-metal spot prices update throughout the day. Historical charts plot the daily reference rate for the selected period.
Can I convert between any two currencies?
Yes — the converter supports 160+ currencies plus the four major precious metals. For most currency pairs a historical chart is also available; a few very exotic pairs may not have chart data, but the live conversion always works.
What is a troy ounce?
A troy ounce (31.1035 g) is the standard unit for pricing precious metals such as gold and silver. All spot prices on this page are quoted per troy ounce.
Are these the rates my bank will give me?
Reference rates are an indicator only. Your bank or transfer provider adds a margin and may use a different market rate. Always confirm the final rate before you transact.
